Asian Handicaps are offered on football matches. They are a relatively new type in the betting market. Like any handicap the Asian Handicap is created for leveling the playing field and providing equal chances in the game. It also eliminates the possibility of games or competitions ending in a draw. Thus with the chances of the matches ending in a draw out of the picture the games tend to be more competitive and interesting.
Now instead of picking an option from amongst home, draw and away you have to decide on the team which is a good or rather which is the best bet on the Asian Handicap they have received or have been given. An Asian Handicap is expressed in terms of goal or goals or as a part of a goal start or a goal deficit.
Asian handicaps seem a little complex and confusing initially because there are many ways in which they are expressed. The Different types of Asian Handicaps are as follows:
The 0.5 Asian Handicap
In this type of bet an advantage or handicap of an imaginary half goal is given to one of the teams at the start of the game. Thus the other team needs to overcome this and still win for you to win your bet and if you place your bet on the team which has an initial advantage then you win if that team wins or even draws the match
The 0 Asian Handicap
This is used when both the teams have a fairly equal chance. There is no possibility of a draw. In the event that the game concludes in a draw then your stakes are returned back to you
The 1 Asian Handicap
If you bet on the team with the -1 handicapped selection then for you to win your team needs to win by at least 2 goals. If they team win by only one goal then your stakes are refunded. If you choose the team who has a one goal lead (+1) then you win if they win the match or if it ends in a draw. If your team loses by just one goal then too your stake gets refunded.
The 1.5 Asian Handicap
This is extremely similar to the 1 Asian Handicaps.
The Double Asian Handicap
In this type of betting the wager is split into two. They are expressed using decimal odds. Double Asian Handicaps are of two types:
- Double Asian Handicap 0, 0.5
- Double Asian Handicap 0.5, 1
The amount of profit that a bookmaker takes on these wagers is lower than what they would take on a regular full time or 90 minutes match bet. These are on the kind of games that include the possibility of the game ending in a draw. Bookmakers make very low percentage profits on these bets.
This is one reason why Asian Handicap bets can be great value bets and also they have more possibilities of winning.
